In a heartfelt display of sportsmanship and community support, the Greenwood GOLF League is proud to announce a contribution to the Johnson C. Smith University (JCSU) golf team endowment. Due to the cancellation of all of the SKINS at the Greenwood GOLF League's final event at Red Bridge Golf Club on September 21, 2024, players unanimously agreed to donate the funds intended for the pot to the JCSU golf team.
Coach William Watkins, the head coach of the JCSU golf team, expressed his excitement and gratitude for the league’s generosity, noting that the contribution would be directed toward the team's endowment fund. This endowment plays a crucial role in supporting the long-term success of the JCSU golf program, ensuring that future student-athletes have the resources they need to excel both on and off the course.
“The support of the Greenwood GOLF League is an incredible boost to our program,” Coach Watkins said. “This donation will help us continue to grow and develop, and we are truly grateful for the Greenwood GOLF community’s commitment to our team.”
This partnership between Greenwood GOLF and JCSU continues with even more exciting news. The JCSU golf team will also be the beneficiary of the upcoming 5th Annual Juneteenth Golf Classic, for Saturday, June 21, 2025. This highly anticipated event will further bolster the team's resources, giving the program a strong foundation for the future.
Greenwood GOLF League’s ongoing support of JCSU and other HBCU golf programs highlights its commitment to fostering diversity and equity within the game of golf. Through contributions like this, the league continues to empower young athletes, strengthen community ties, and celebrate the rich history and culture of the sport.
